Our Overall Rating
The PSE Stinger X is the latest in a long line of single cam Stinger bows which are perfect for beginner archers. The PSE Stinger X model replaces the old Stinger 3G and features PSE’s high performing X-Tech split limbs and their new, highly-adjustable SX cam (hence why the bow is called the Stinger X) which promises more speed and a smoother draw. The Stinger X is also 0.8 lbs lighter than the PSE Surge model which is also very popular with beginners.
Materials & Design
The riser of the Stinger X compound bow is machined 6061 T6 aluminum and incorporates machined aluminum limb pockets. The Stinger X also comes with PSE’s Vibracheck rubber grip which helps to absorb vibration and provide you with a more comfortable firing experience. Replacement grips are also available to help customize the overall appearance of the bow.
The highly-adjustable SX cam allows you to adjust the desired draw characteristics and peak weight range by selecting the “Performance” or “Grow With You” cable positions. The performance option allows you to set a specific draw length while retaining your desired draw weight, whereas the “Grow-With-You” setting sees draw weights rise as the draw length rises.
To see how the various cam setting affect the bow, you can refer to the SX Cam draw charts provided by PSE in their owner’s manual.
It is worth mentioning that the official specifications of this bow say that is has a draw weight of 50-70lbs, however thanks to the “Grow-With-You” settings this bow can actually drop down to draw weights under 40lbs whilst still using a solid 29” draw length.
Suitability for Hunting
Are you planning to use this bow for hunting? Well let’s take a look at the speed and hunting capabilities of the PSE Stinger X
The PSE Stinger X promotes an IBO speed of 316 fps, remembering this is an estimate only at the exact point of release, and will be impacted by external factors. For details of how we calculate Kinetic Energy at TheModernArcher, refer to our detailed Compound Bow Guide.
Assuming we use the standard IBO settings (70 lbs draw weight, 30” draw length, 350 grain arrow), an arrow shot from the PSE Stinger X will possess approximately 70.1 ft-lbs of Kinetic Energy.
Based on the KE Hunting Charts, this bow is suitable for even the Toughest Game (i.e. cape buffalo, grizzly, musk ox).
Ready to Shoot Package
A great option worth considering is the “Ready to Shoot” package which comes with a full suite of useful accessories that allow you to master the bow right out of the box. For the beginner archer who just wants to get out there and start shooting, we highly recommend it. The package comes with:
- Gemini 3-pin Sight

- Flexxtech 3 Stabilizer
- 6 arrow Hunter’s Quiver
- Peep wheel
